Book Design, Editorial Design
Edited and designed a promotional book by Baltimore-based photographer Chuck Shacochis that highlights his new body of work. The minimal design and layout mirrors his quiet and monochromatic images of Florida.
The cover features a whimsical scan of an item related to the subject–in this case, a pink beach towel, and the book opens with a photo of a boy running with a towel by the pool. The typographic treatment is understated, set in italics and a small point size, it creates a relationship to the formality of the black and white images inside.
Each photograph was selected to emphasize recurring motifs: organic shapes, refracted light, and distortion through shadows. The vocabulary is familiar to the Floridian landscape: palm trees, pools, sun-strewn tennis courts, and retirees.
